About our departments and schools
Moody College houses five departments and schools and one interdisciplinary undergraduate degree program that provide a broad array of learning and research opportunities within communication disciplines. Each of our highly-ranked departments and schools offer timely and interesting courses, outstanding facilities, and faculty at the top of their fields in both academia and industry.
Department of Communication Studies
The department prepares students to become expert communicators in a variety of contexts, both in the workplace or in personal relationships. Students gain experience in argumentation, persuasion, research and storytelling that prepares them for careers in communication professions and industries where communication skills are key. Our research explores critical issues, including energy and the environment, social media and politics, and AI and robotics.
Department of Radio-Television-Film
The department bridges the practical and theoretical through an innovative blend of film school foundational skills and a world-class media studies program. A premier destination for those seeking careers in creative industries, it provides hands-on practice in audio design, directing, screenwriting, radio broadcasting and more, using the latest technology in a collaborative community of experts and peers.
Department of Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences
The department is a leader in research, educational programs and evidence-based clinical services. It is dedicated to making groundbreaking discoveries in speech-language pathology and audiology and training the next generation of clinicians to translate this new knowledge into effective therapies that improve and change lives.
School of Journalism and Media
The school is dedicated to developing future leaders across a spectrum of professions who are prepared to contribute to society through evidence-based communication. Students learn how journalism and media impact society, and vice versa, while developing skills in written, video, photo and audio storytelling to produce compelling content for a range of platforms and publications.
Stan Richards School of Advertising & Public Relations
The school provides students with the most in-demand skills in writing, research, creative design, data analytics and more that allow them to craft persuasive messages using a variety of media, to ensure those messages reach the right audience and to analyze performance so that campaigns and other communications are effective.
Interdisciplinary undergraduate degree: Communication and Leadership
The only undergraduate degree offered at UT Austin specifically focused on the study and practice of leadership, the communication and leadership degree helps students develop a skillset to navigate a variety of professional contexts built upon the key foundations of leadership and communication.
