Azalea Laredo is a versatile educator and director with a passion for interdisciplinary collaboration and innovation. She holds a Master of Music degree in Opera Directing from The University of Texas at Austin and a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from The University of Texas at Brownsville.
Aside from her background in performance, directing, and stage management, Azalea has also freelanced and served as a consultant in digital marketing. She is also a Spanish instructor and has worked as a Program and Project Manager in multiple industries.
Throughout her career, Azalea has led various projects focused on bringing multidisciplinary teams together to create meaningful experiences for a wide range of audiences. Some of her recent projects range from live opera and theater productions to alternate reality and role-playing games (ARGs and RPGs). In 2017, Azalea directed the world premiere of a children’s opera called Cry Wolf by Alex Heppelmann, at the Cohen New Works Festival in Austin, TX. She has taught and designed new curriculum for schools and afterschool programs around the country including the Recreational Music Center in San Diego, CA, Berlitz Languages - National Programs and The People’s Music School in Chicago, IL. Her recent presentations and projects include the Innovators Roundup: The Future of Commerce, which debuted at The University of Texas at Austin in Fall 2023 and was recreated at Worlds in Play at Arizona State University’s Media and Immersive eXperience (MIX) Center.
Azalea is currently the Program Manager for the Texas Immersive Institute (TXI) at The University of Texas at Austin, which specializes in teaching the next generation of experience designers, strategists, and technologists. She teaches Audience Development and Engagement.
