Yeonsoo Kim is an associate professor at the Stan Richards School of Advertising and Public Relations. She previously served as a public relations concentration coordinator at James Madison University and a faculty associate at the Center for Faculty Innovation.
Her research focuses on strategic communication, corporate social responsibility (CSR), diversity and inclusion in public relations, corporate social advocacy, reputation management, and crisis/issue management. Dr. Kim’s work has been published in leading public relations and business ethics journals, including the Journal of Public Relations Research, Public Relations Review, Journal of Business Ethics, the Asian Journal of Communication, Corporate Communication: An International Journal, and Public Relations Journal among others.
She is the founder and associate editor of the Korean Journal of Communication and serves on the editorial boards of leading journals such as the Journal of Public Relations Research and the Asian Journal of Public Relations. Dr. Kim is also the director of the Strategic Social Responsibility and Communication Lab. Additionally, she has held several international leadership positions within the Korean-American Communication Association (KACA), including President (2023-2025) and Vice President (2021-2023).
Dr. Kim's professional experience extends to the public relations industry, where she founded and directed student-run public relations agencies at two prior institutions. She is an Accredited Public Relations (APR) professional and has received numerous statewide public relations awards in Virginia.
